Well... the great weather couldn't last. It was wet and rainy all day today in Seattle/Bellevue. We drove around a bunch of neighborhoods: Medina, Mercer Island, Ravenna, Queen Anne, Belltown, Fremont, etc.
We got lost a lot. Most of the streets include a directional notation example (35th street NW or N 34th Avenue), but it's unbelievably confusing since you can't see the sun most of the time in this rain-soaked city. So here's a tip: if you visit Seattle and want to get around, you should either buy a compass or make sure that your rental car has a GPS system in it.
The good thing about the rain is that it is perfect for enjoying hot beverages. No wonder this city is the coffee capitol of the world! I had a latte at Starbucks, a mocha at Diva espresso. Then at Cafe Lladro in the Queen Anne neighborhood, I drink called a yankee something or other.... the recipe was described as an Americano + cappuccino foam. Since it was so cold and wet, we literally walked next door to have 3 full cups of tea at Teacup. With all the different drinks I'm getting a good tour of the inside of Seattle restrooms too!
Went to North Cascades National Park today.... sort of. You can't actually drive into the park. You can drive on Hwy 20, which bisects the park, but the land just off of the highway isn't the National Park...instead, it is called the Ross Lake National Recreation Area.
So... do we count it? Heck yeah! I'm not a backpacker/camper-type, and I don't own a pontoon boat, so there isn't much of a way to get into the actual park any other way.

We visited with Kelli, Chris, and their son Dillon. We had a great visit and a great meal.
We went to Mount Rainier National Park today. Neat area. Here are two photos... the gallery will be posted soon.
A few hours ago, I had a real-time conversation with someone who was on a British-based cell phone, calling from Quatar to my land-line phone in San Diego.
Just think about the progression of communication equipment over the 150 years -- and especially the exponential improvement since the advent of computers and fiber optics. The way that humans have been able to cooperate, coordinate, innovate, and build upon one another's knowledge is truly astounding.
Recently, I watched Human 2.0, a Science Channel show that discussed the singularity, which is a term that describes the time when computer/artificial intelligence rises to the level of humans at the same time that our knowledge of the way the human body works is increased to a level where we can truly use machines to interface (seamlessly) with biology. Some people believe this will be a commonplace reality within the next 50 years or so.
Some people scoff off the concept of the singularity as hocus-pocus, or view it as a significant negative threat to human existence. I figure that there will be some negative breakdowns but I am energized by the possibilities and opportunities.

MAS and I went to the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) 2007 trade show. This is the largest coffee-related trade show in the United States.
Michael received some props from a San Diego home roaster, Joe Be More Behmor who won the best new product award.
We saw some beautifully crafted and shiny coffee equipment. I took a few photos, even though people are really discouraged from photography (due to the pre-retail release nature of certain products.) Here's a link to my small photo gallery.

Yesterday was a beautiful spring day. We went to the Carlsbad Flower Fields (and Armstrong garden center.) This is the location where Armstrong grows rununculus plants/flowers for seeds. There are blooms for as far as the eye can see.

Yesterday, MAS and I hiked a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. The name of the hike is Kwaaymii Point and it is M-8 Trip 1 in Afoot & Afield in San Diego.
The new camera has the infinity setting, and it definitely got a workout on this hike!
